780 automatic heater controls to regular, is it hard? - 122power - 09-10-2012 12:09 PM Have a 87' 780 that has the automatic heater controls but would rather have the regular three knob set up. Is it hard to change this or would I have to rip the whole dash apart to switch over? Can I just change the controls or is the rest totally different? RE: 780 automatic heater controls to regular, is it hard? - blu92in99 - 09-10-2012 06:12 PM Helped a friend do this conversion on his '86 764T. Went from the single dial-a-temp automagic temp system to the normal 740 HVAC controls. It required changing the entire HVAC box under the dash; there were too many little differences with diaphragms, linkages, duct routing, etc. We hoped for a control head swap and go, but it was way more involved. Not trying to scare you off, it's a very worthwhile conversion. Just saying from experience to grab everything you can think of from a donor car first. At the very least grab the complete HVAC box, control head, and everything that goes between the control head and said box. Or do you want to get rid of the auto capabilities? ![]() RE: 780 automatic heater controls to regular, is it hard? - 122power - 09-12-2012 05:49 PM Yes want to get rid of the auto controls if I keep the car but most likely will sell it. It works but A/C not woking. It has the prv in it too. RE: 780 automatic heater controls to regular, is it hard? - miguel.760ti - 09-12-2012 07:14 PM If it works why dick with it?
