Yay exhaust!

Initial impressions on the OBX exhaust for the 7/9:

• OBX did a good job researching the fitment, it fits very well, tucks up nice and tight while maintaining good clearance to the body and following OE exhaust routing maintaining good ground clearance.
• Exhaust note is very subtle, at least initially. I'm sure it'll get louder with time, but as of now it's just slightly deeper at idle and cruise while having a pronounced melody under WOT.
• definite increase in the butt-o-meter without touching anything else, though I doubt it's the "18+ hp" OBX claims...but who am I to judge without proper before & after dyno runs.
• As with everyone else, I found the rear muffler hangers to be placed totally wrong for my application. They were welded on good though! Took a few minutes with the die grinder to cut them off, then hung the muffler into place and rewelded them onto the muffler. Factor this into your install if you go this route.
• The hardware they sent for the downpipe flange was way too big to fit through the holes on the downpipe. Bill happened to be tearing apart a 'yota 1MZ engine for scrap so we found some high-grade Toyota hardware from that engine to use.
• We welded up the entire exhaust on mine, save for the flange to the downpipe and the cat itself. I wanted the cat to be a serviceable part without welding, while minimizing my chances for leaks elsewhere in the system.
• For less than $400 delivered for everything (CARB legal cat, exhaust, etc) this is a damn good bang for the buck. Sure I could have built another 3" system, but not this nice and certainly not entirely in 304 SS.
  

For a DD, this is plenty good.

That OBX exhaust is definitely the best bang for the buck for a sub 300 hp app. Still boosting 12 psi on the 13C? doing 8 psi on the 15G it definitely felt like a 30+ increase.

I trimmed the midpipe a tiny bit to get the thing to not poke too far out, though

Yup, still 12psi on ye olde 13c. Turbo and downpipe are all that's left now, iirc.

I remembered about your midpipe woes, and did that last on the install with the cat to offset it.

SE bumpers, side skirts, snow scoop...all repaired, primed, and ready to paint. Picking up the paint supplies next week, hopefully have them back in my hands and installed by the end of June.





Still need to come up with a tow hook cover, but might just modify/fabricate one out of a 240 tow hook cover or airdam. Especially since I have a NOS Grant bodykit airdam to go on the 242, I don't need its' stock airdam anymore.

Lookin real good J!

23mpg fwy is all I got at best with all my turbo 7/9 cars. My 245 m47 is at 27mpg which is a nice change. Damn boring though. And so underpowered I am at the mercy of other cars on the road and can't do ANY aggressive driving to get ahead of fuckers that piss me off. I feel like I'm in a VW bug that is lucky to make it up certain hills. Gonna put the wastegate actuator back on the turbo 244 and start driving it again soon to cure my boost withdrawals.

Nice SE kit! Those are impossible to find without cracks and muffler burns.

I was favoring 7/9's in the past for knee room at center console, but now I'm really enjoying my pair of 240s. I have a LOT more emotional attachment to my 240's and the 145 than any 7/9 I have ever owned.

Keep up the good work. If I ever make it up North I would like to kick it with you again.

Still no love on the SE bodykit. My painter has been very pre-occupied with restoring his Daytona, and refinishing a Harley gas tank for me as a favor to a friend of mine.

Fingers crossed I have the SE kit back and installed before next Davis, or WM at least.

Still need a tow hook cover for it anyway, so no big loss at this time.
