Engine swap
Ok so I have a 1986 245 N/a I bought this car almost a year ago have been working on it doing the maintenance It desperately needed suspension and brakes also doing engine repairs when they came up. I recently picked up a 1990 745 ti to get running and sell the 240. But after looking at both cars I decided to keep my 240. But I need the engine and trans from the 740 in the 240. Is this direct swap or what do I need to do to make it work? Sorry for the long post.

RE: Engine swap
It will have to be smog tested. I really just want a fun daily driver. Something to surprise people etc. I am thinking about going mega squirt.

Just asking, do you have any experience at this type of thing, including testing/diagnosing and possibly manufacturing various electrical harnesses, exhaust fabrication, inlet piping fabrication, chassis modification etc.?

Nowhere close to a 'direct swap'; it's a Big Job, heads up.

Bullshitters have been keelhauled.

RE: Engine swap
I get that it's a big job. I was more wondering of it was a direct swap as far as drive shaft and motor mounts. Because technically they are the same block right? And if I mega squirt the car then that's the same as swapping the Wireing harness anyways actually prob more work.

RE: Engine swap
Use the engine mounts from the 240, they bolt right on to the block.

Dunno about the autos but on manuals you have to swap the gearbox
output flange.

Get the 240 running with LH first, even is you got experience with MS
you can end up hunting grimlins for months.

RE: Engine swap
So If I pull the 740 motor and swap the harness then stuff it all in the 240 the trans should hook up to the drive shaft?

RE: Engine swap
Maybe. What trans is in the car now? What trans are you swapping in?

I know the meaning of life.
