heey! no overheat!
the mac valve oughta be pretty straight forward, I assume you've got the requisite transistors on the ms?

yup... prettymuch just like this:

power on MS, it grounds the output like it should... change the duty table, PW responds accordingly.

the solenoid is a Humphrey 310 that just isn't fully closing as far as i can tell. didn't spend more than a minute checking out out, as it was pouring rain. i f'ing hate the rain.
probably something simple...

RE: 142... b20, holset, megasquirt (lotsa pics)
*sigh*... the wee 35amp (yes, really just 35amp) alternator can't hang with:

weak sealed beam headlights +
electric fan +
heater fan +
the ignition coils, MS, etc.

if i run it all, which this time of year i prettymuch have to... the battery goes dead right quick.
i get a few days between dead batteries. time for something a bit better than 35A Big Grin

hmm... i've got a 120A GM alternator kickin' around that just needs new brushes....

If that doesn't work out talk to mechman and they'll build you something nice Smile

mechman has some rad stuff... but a simple stock Delco CS-130 with its 105 amps is more than enough for this thing... plus it's what my Suburban uses & i've got spares.

fans, heater blower, wipers, tail/running lights, headlights, MS / Coils. I added it all up... all running, it's about 35 amps.
the alternator is 35 amps. on a good day. not really anything left to charge the battery.

the CS-130 will be a huge difference. maybe now i can consider some lights that are better than POS 7" sealed beam DOTs. wish Cibie ECEs were in the budget Smile

RE: 142... b20, holset, megasquirt (lotsa pics)
GM/Delco CS-130 on the left... Bosch 35 amp on the right...

and fancy new ground straps all 'round...

the Delco sure isn't as purdy as the Bosch... but the extra 70 amps is welcome.

the Bosch is going on my model a... 35 amps is more than enough for that thing.

sweet. adapting other alternators is a breeze. I think I've got a 960 alt on the race car, and had some sort of VW alt on the previous 90' before the wiring harness was violently torn loose.

RE: 142... b20, holset, megasquirt (lotsa pics)
the Delco fits a bit better than the Bosch, anyway. I had moved the Bosch from the pass side to the driver's side so the turbo crap would fit... had to squeeze the alt between the #1 plug and the steering box. the Delco is a bit smaller & the mounting ear/adjusting ear clocking is better suited to being on the driver's side.

35 amps was just silly Smile
it actually tested today at a bit shy of 31 amps cold... at under hood operating temps i'm sure it was even less (more heat = more resistance). right now there's a *lot* of heat under the hood when i've been pushing the turbo... summer is gonna suck.

Delco all ready to go in... fancy wrinkle powder coat on the case, fancy wiring, fancy wire cover. almost too pretty for this car...

now who here is a machinist? preferably one that trades some minor machining in some aluminum wheel centers for beer....

RE: 142... b20, holset, megasquirt (lotsa pics)
alternator is in...

something has been bugging me with this car for years... the reverse lights don't work, the running lights are always on when the car is on and the turn indicators don't work when it rains.
i had been pretty sure there was a short in the factory loom somewhere... plus i don't like the factor relays that hang out on the inner fender... and i don't much like the stock fuse block...
so started tearing into it

its simple enough, just going to rewire the fucking car.

it's becoming Trigger's broom.

RE: 142... b20, holset, megasquirt (lotsa pics)
nothing major... the factory chassis wire is out. the fuse block looks like its been sitting next to davey jones' locker for some time.

enter this:

rummaged around the basement to dig out leftovers from previous projects.
three Bosch and two Delco relays. one each for the electric fan, coils/injectors, MS/wideband, accessory circuit, run/start circuit (which cancels the accessory circuit).
relays still to be added for head, brake and running lights, signal flasher, etc.

the idea is everything will run through this board. no relays under the hood. the only thing that's remote is the fuel pump relay next to the battery in the trunk.
moving the ignition coils to the inside of the firewall, too.

something peaceful and zen-like about wiring.

edit:
filling it up...

handy tip: i have found that a large zip tie ~36"l x 3/8"w makes a most excellent tool for fishing wire around a car

Great Project, mate, looking better with each new addition/subtraction (as the case may be) - have I missed where you said you will eventually paint it? If so, what colours are you thinking? Quite like the 'clunker' look hiding the beauty of the turbo donk though Wink

RE: 142... b20, holset, megasquirt (lotsa pics)
its eventually getting painted. nothing special... original yellow, acrylic urethane, possibly some flattener thrown in depending how little time i want to spend on the metal work. the doors and right rear quarter have lots of plastic on 'em.

this is/was meant to be my daily-driver/parts-chaser/fun beater car that sits outside, while i work on other projects... was just going to use some leftovers from old projects i had kickin' around... the holset, the first MS, etc... just throw together a cheap beater.

my "real projects" are a harley WLA, '62 harley xlch resto & the '67 harley xlh chopper i tear around on... and a '31 model A coupe rod project that's in more parts than you can shake a stick at.

yet i keep working on this piece of crap Smile

I gotta say, when I swapped from the stock 55A mine had (FI cars got the 55A) to the 100A Bosch from a 780, the difference was night and day! being able to run decent lights, stereo that'll thump, etc. and still having decent charging voltage. Smile

I've been getting the urge to work on mine more lately, kinda like being able to work on it again.

It's funny, aye, how the side projects sometimes take over Big Grin It's looking good either way, meaning it's shaping up into a classic rebuild! I've subscribed Wink

just filling up the board.... shit this stuff always takes 3 times as long as i think it will...

but every single wire on the entire f'ing car is now new.

every single thing on the car works save for the couple minor things not hooked up yet (high beam indicator, and highbeams as i'm needing one more spst relay).

(the wiring is not all tied/cleaned up in this pic, yet... much tidier when done.)

car starts/runs again.
the headlights don't flicker anymore & they're way brighter than before.
the wipers don't decide to turn on/off by themselves anymore.
the battery actually charges.
